[Halloween ‘23] Pumpkin Picking

It seemed Marina and Archie had gotten themselves into a little pickle with a new ghostly pup…luckily Oliver was there to help out for a little while!

The cat had made his way over and gently lead away the sad pup with a gentle smile on his face, he had something up his fuzzy sleeves.

“Hey don’t worry alright little one? I’m sure they’ll find a way to put it aaaall back together for you” he said softly as he got a little closer to look Boo in the eyes.

She gave a tiny sniff in reply and slowly nodded, didn’t quite believe it but these older folks had to know how to do something right? She watched as Oliver nodded back and gestures gently with his paw towards the pumpkin patch.

“Why don’t we head over there? I’m sure there’s lots of pumpkins we could find! Could take one to carve, get your mind off things” he said in a more cheerful tone, hoping the idea would be to her liking.

Thankfully it did get her brighten up, her eyes giving a little sparkle as she smiled. “Oh I love carving pumpkins! It’s always so much fun!” Boo said happily doing a happy little twirl in the air. Oliver smiled and chuckled back as he gave her a little shoulder bump and took off towards it. “Race ya there!”

Boo gasped and quickly rushed after him, a little grumpy look on her face but it was all for fun. “You cheater you got a headstart!” She called after him. She did quickly catch up though, he was just having some fun to lighten her mood more, and it seemed to be working!!

The pair smiled and giggled as they got up to the pumpkin patch, slowing down to gaze out over the sea of pumpkins before them. Boo’s eyes got wide and excited, a soft gasp escaping her, this was magnificent…so much to look at!

“I can already see some big ones out there, come on come on!” Boo exclaimed excitedly as she rushed out into the field giggling away, left Oliver to have to play a little catch up. He didn’t waste any time with that, rushing to follow her as well as look at their selection.

There were still pumpkins of many sizes, some small, some larger, even a few really big ones. Goodness that looked like it would be scary to carry back. Oliver’s attention was grabbed again at Boo’s flash of white bounding up to him.

“Look look! This pumpkin is so teeny tiny…” she said with the biggest and most adorable puppy dog eyes Oliver had seen. He cooed a little as he liked between the pumpkin in her paws and the adorable face she had. God what a sweetheart.

“These little guys are always my favorite, they look so cute with a few gourds in a basket on the table! Or even sitting on the windowsill” Oliver said as he admired the little thing. “You wanna get some with a nice pumpkin for carving?”

Boo immediately nodded and just…dropped the tiny pumpkin into Oliver’s quick to scramble for it paws. She grabbed a few more to join it before she got distracted once again giving a big dramatic gasp. Her eyes sparkled again, tail wagging as she quickly shot her paw out to point at one of the largest pumpkins in the immediate area.

Oh dear…he really thought too soon huh? Of course a mischievous little scamp like her would want the biggest pumpkin.

“Thats our carving pumpkin…” Boo said determinedly as Oliver looked on with a bit of a concerned face. “Oh it’ll definitely be good to carve…but we may have to start it out here, at least getting all the seeds and stuff out…otherwise I don’t think it’ll be able to come home” Oliver replied with a small nervous chuckle.

“Then we’ll do it that way! Come on lets get it!!” Boo quickly rushed to the giant thing and tried to lift it, meanwhile Oliver shook his head a little as he joined her. Together they lifted the pumpkin onto its side and began to roll it towards the front.

She was a bit of a handful but Oliver liked helping Boo out…they’d make this pumpkin the best carved one on the whole street.
