Pies with Adelaide
The sound of the rooster crowing woke Arrow, his eyes fluttering lightly as the early morning sun filtered into the room to greet him. The rooster was right on time, just like he was every other day and that seemed to make Arrow smile as she greeted the day. Yawning she slipped out of bed and made her way to the kitchen to start her day, with Tex being gone to visit family she's been feeling a little lonely. She'd gotten used to waking up to the smell of cooked bacon and freshly churned cheese, a specialty of the cattle rancher.
But, today she'd be helping Leon by watching his granddaughter Adelaide. She'd almost forgotten, but as thoughtful as Tex was he'd left Arrow a sticky note reminder on their counter. With a smile Arrow would tidy up the little mess that was around the house and just as she finished there was a knock on the door.
She'd swing the door open to reveal Leon and his granddaughter, and with a smile she'd say, “Welcome, it's good to see you Leon and-” she'd stop and looked down at the young water dog with a kind smile, “You must be sweet Adelaide, it's nice to finally meet you!” The little waterdog would chuckle and wave a paw in greeting, her tail wagging a mile a minute.
Leon would clear his throat before dipping his head, “I wanna thank you again for lending me a hand Miss Arrow,” he'd then look to his granddaughter and add, “Now you be good for Miss Arrow, you are a guest in her house.” He'd then look back to Arrow before nodding his head in appreciation and taking his leave.
Arrow would shut the door behind Adelaide as she entered the house with wide curious eyes. With a snicker Arrow would give the curious pup a tour of her and Tex's modest home. It was quick and simple but seemed to quelm the pups curiosity enough. Their tour ended in the kitchen where Arrow had set up a fun activity for the two to do.
Arrow would smile and nod, “Well Adelaide, I hope you enjoy baking because it's one of my specialties! And today I thought I could show you how I make em.” Before Arrow could even finish her sentence Adelaide would give exciting and agreeing barks. With a chuckle Arrow added, “Alright alright, how about we get started? I've already prepared the dough so let's decide what we want to put in it!”
He'd walked around to the other side, of the island to pull out various fruits to choose from. Adelaide didn't hesitate to grab the first one she saw, a bunch of apples while Arrow choose her personal favorite- white peaches. Arrow provided step by step instructions for Adelaide to follow as they both prepared their own pies. Laughing would ensue when fruit would get dropped or thrown, it was good to have fun while you baked.
Eventually their pies were ready for the oven and they went to bake until perfectly golden brown. In the meantime the two would play a board game, laughing and chatting the entire time until the beep of the oven indicated the ready pies. Carefully Arrow removed the pies for them to inspect and purred a praise at Adelaides perfect apple pie.
The pie was made just in time when the entrance to the house opened to reveal both Tex and Leon at the entrance. Excited Adelaide took her pie and showed it off to Leon, saying she made it just for him. With a hearty Laugh Leon thanked Arrow and took Adelaide home.
Arrow greeted Tex and they shared a peach pie, both taking turns telling each other about their lovely day.
Arrow watches Adelaide for the day and they bake pies!
