Fae arrived at Leon's home promptly at 3 pm, just like she'd been asked to the previous day. She smoothed her fur down slightly and gave her wings a quick little flutter to make sure she looked her best before gently knocking on the door with one of her paws. Fae was fairly nervous; not only was this her very first baby-sitting job but was also quite small, making a lot of normal tasks a little harder for her than other creatures.
Leon answered the door with a smile, and Fae greeted him with the most confident smile she could muster in return. Leon could tell she was a little anxious; but he also trusted her to do a great job babysitting his grand-daughter. He led her through the home to the kitchen and did a quick introduction between the two before making his way out to run his errands, knowing he was leaving his grand-daughter in very capable paws.
Fae watched as he closed the door on his way out, then turned back to face Adelaide. There was an awkward bit of silence between the two at first, and she was a little uncertain how to ease the awkwardness. After a few moments, Fae decided to try and break the ice with a compliment, hoping it might help the little girl warm up to her a little.
"I love your braid," she said, making sure her voice was cheerful despite her obvious nerves. The little watercat's ears perked up as she looked at Fae, smiling happily at her. "Thank you! I could braid yours, too, if you want!" she exclaimed back.
Fae laughed softly at Adelaide's enthusiasm. "Well, I don't really have much hair for braiding," she said, motioning at her shorter fur and lack of hair.
"Oh, right.." Adelaide trailed off. "Well, we could still do something fun with your fur! I have plenty of bows, and clips, and scrunchies, and..." her voice trailed off again as she hopped down from her stool and ran towards another room. "..and some have sparkles and some have real seashells even!" Her voice filled the kitchen again as she re-entered the room. She held a little blue case in her hands as she sat back down at the table. When she opened it, it was filled with all different types of fur accessories, just like Adelaide had described.
"I love playing dress up!" Fae said, eyeing the contents. She climbed up on the table to sit next to the box, tilting her head to see inside better. Most of the accessories were too large for Fae's small stature; some of the smallest clips being the size of her entire body! Adelaide frowned slightly as she noticed, but her face quickly dawned a look of determination.
"I have an idea," Adelaide said, already hopping off the stool and disappearing into that same room once more. Fa could hear her rummaging around, and her nerves quickly returned. She hoped Adelaide wasn't making too much of a mess, or maybe even doing something that could get her hurt. Deciding it would be best to check on her, Fae followed into the room.
Just as Fae entered, Adelaide turned around. Her eyes beamed with excitement as she proudly presented a tiny, delicate ribbon in her paws. She ran over to Fae and gently tied the ribbon around the tip of her tail. Fae giggled happily, spinning around and around in a small show to accentuate the way the ribbon's tails tails sparkled in the light.
"It's perfect!" Fae smiled, finally sitting down in one place.
"And it's special, just for you, so please keep it!" Adelaide said. "I even made myself one to match!"
The two giggled in their matching ribbons, posing for each other to show them off. While this was supposed to just be the start of Fae's babysitting career, she could already tell it was also the start of a wonderful new friendship, too!
