Rorschach was a former member of the hero team that protected the Inner City during the war with the Fringe. Unlike his teammates, he continued his vigilantism after they disbanded, eventually becoming unstable and as bad as the crime he sought to destroy. While he drove many of his former friends away, this unstoppable drive also allowed him to track down Adrian's underground activities when no one else could. After discovering these, he contacted the one real friend he still had -Dan- and convinced him to help stop Adrian. Together with another former teammate, John, they managed to stop Adrian, at the cost of Rorschach's memories as he refused to simply allow Adrian to go free despite it being their only viable option without causing more destruction.

Even after John was forced to erase his memories of the incident, he still disliked Adrian for reasons he couldn't place. He continues to be a menace to the Fringe, and Dan's pantry.
