Welcome to the second week of the 2022 Halloween event!

This week, we'll be hosting two drawing prompts! During this event, you'll be able to earn our new Halloween-specific currency, Candy Corn ( CC)! 

DRAWING PROMPT: Something spooky...

You can't have Halloween without some scares! Is your waterdog particularly scary? Or maybe they just love dressing up and spooking their friends! For this week's prompt, you'll be tasked with drawing your Waterdog being scary!

★ Drawing requirements: 1 lined and colored drawing of your Waterdog/cat. You can go as scary as you like, we're here for a fright! Horror elements, edgy stories, and unsettling imagery are all okay to use for this prompt - just make sure to put a content warning if your submission needs it! Of course, you don't need to go full scary. Spooky-cute drawings are a-okay too!

Drawing Prompt: Monster-fy!

Continuing with week two, we have another spooky prompt to prepare us for the season! Monsters have always been a big part of not just Halloween, but folklore and legends as well. So deeply ingrained in our history, is it possible they might still be real? Maybe your Waterdog has a beastly form hidden away somewhere inside...

★ Drawing requirements: 1 lined and colored drawing of your "monsterfied" Waterdog/cat. Draw your Waterdog as a monster! You can go as big and scary as you like. Maybe they have a werewolf form, or some strange kind of powers...? Either way, we want to see it! 

★ Monster designs are unnofficial. You may add traits your Waterdog does not currently have for this prompt, as well as new traits that are not currently listed on the Masterlist. Go wild, have fun, be creative!

★ You may only complete this prompt once. You can turn it in [HERE].

Hello everybody, we are writing this today just to clarify things about the recent missing limb and missing eye business.

To preface it all, we decided to change things because recently a handful of people have reached out to us stating their discomfort with the traits and their exclusive rarity.

It was brought to our attention that having them as exclusive makes the idea of a physical disability "different and rare, therefore more valuable," essentially fetishizing and capitalizing on the idea of a physical disability, which is, at its core, ableist.

We never ever intended to come off this way to you all, and we realize that keeping things how we were was just reinforcing that idea about the traits and painting a very bad light on ourselves. So, we finally reviewed them to completely do away with any relation to those ideas.

We know that this was not the first time someone has voiced their very valid problems with these traits. We do not have any excuses for the previous handlings of these concerns. We know that it shouldn't have taken this long for us to rectify this. We know that these traits shouldn't have existed as exclusive in the first place. perhaps it was simply because closed species communities were brought up with these traits as rarities and it is very common to see them as having a rarer or exclusive identity, but that does not excuse it existing in that way whatsoever.

We know that in real life, living with a disability is hard. a couple of us mods have physical disabilities ourselves. Aside from factors like pain, immobility, and other physical issues, it is common that others treat you poorly and often with disrespect, and we never, ever wanted to contribute to that treatment.

Full disclaimer, we NEVER have and never will believe that disability = less.

From the bottom of my heart, on behalf of everyone on this team, we are truly sorry for ever appearing that way. It was never, ever our intention.

We also want to apologize for the recent handling of this situation. With the changes and concerns that were being brought up, some of us may have said things we shouldn't have. While none of us ever intended to come off as ableist or combative, things got out of hand multiple times, and we apologize for any hurt and harm we caused. We absolutely could have handled it better, and we should have. It's a valuable lesson we've learned for the future, however.

Again, we hope that going forward we can continue to show that we are doing our best to listen and we are always seriously considering all you have to say to us, criticisms and all else.

We cannot promise that we will be perfect, so we ask for patience and understanding as we figure things out - we are just a handful of people hosting this community on the sides of our busy adult lives, and sometimes are genuinely ignorant about certain things. (not an excuse, just a face-value factual statement!)

We thank you as always for being here with us, and we thank you especially for holding us accountable.

Once again, hello there Wet Dog Experts Limited(TM).

The results of the recent poll are as follows in regards to the Missing Limb/Eye/etc traits' rarities and the compensation of the downgraded value to be awarded to owners of designs currently sporting the trait:

As such, these majority results (the rarity for the trait being "Rare" and compensation being an option between an Exclusive Trait treat and 4000SD) are what we will implement for existing and future designs with the missing limb/eye trait.

To make the compensation process a bit more clean for us, I have set up a prompt for you all to "turn in" your current missing limb/eye kids.

This is only for Waterdogs/Watercats that had one of these traits BEFORE this news announcement. Any design that has been given a missing limb or missing eye after this news post was made do not qualify for compensation.

We thank you for your patience as we resolve this problem, as it is very important to us that we appropriately represent everyone in our community and beyond - in this case, those who are physically disabled. We understand that this may not make everyone happy, but as mods we need to consider not only those who have been upset by this trait's exclusivity, but also those who have spent real money to obtain designs with these traits, as refunds unfortunately aren't possible for designs that are currently existing. 

We are sorry for the way the trait's existence has been handled previously and we hope that the decisions we have made regarding it going forward show for it. As always, you all are important to us and have a voice, and we never want to make anyone feel like they do not matter, or are not properly being heard - especially on topics as serious as ableism.

Thank you all for everything you do with and for us, and thank you again for lending your voices on this matter. We all sincerely appreciate it and hope this is a good start to making amends.

Thank you all for your submissions to our previous form regarding the Missing Limb/Missing Eye traits' exclusivity. All of your responses were helpful, and we were able to widdle down the options from what everyone proposed.

We have a poll linked below that we need final responses for. If you have a minute, please vote on it - the results will be implemented as soon as we get enough votes.

Drawing Prompt: Candied Waterdog

Candy is one of the most important parts of Halloween! You can't have a Halloween celebration without chocolate bars, spooky lollipops, and delicious candy corn! For this week's prompt, you'll be tasked with drawing your Waterdog/cat as a Halloween candy!

★ Drawing requirements: 1 lined and colored drawing of your candied Waterdog/cat. You do not have to draw an actual Waterdog/cat for this prompt, just the candy that you've chosen to create; however, it must be pretty clear which Waterdog/cat you've chosen to base your candy design off of! If there isn't a clear enough connection, your prompt will not count!

★ Your candied Waterdog/cat can be inspired by a real candy, or it can be something completely made up! Feel free to get creative!

★ You may only complete this prompt once. You can turn it in [HERE].

Goodie Bag Scavenger hunt

It looks like Marina and her friends have hid a few goodie bags filled with spooky treats around the site! Why don't you take a look around and see if you can find them?

★ This week's scavenger hunt will open up on Wednesday, October 12th at 6pm. You'll have until midnight on October 15th to search for the 4 goodie bags that have been hidden around the site. Once located, you should be able to open up the goodie bags and get some spooky treats! You can keep track of your scavenger hunt progress [HERE].

★ Please do not leak the spots of hidden items. This takes away from the fun of the event and we may revoke prizes if you are caught giving out locations!

waterdog halloween 2022

Happy October WD community! We're so excited to be able to host our first Halloween event on the site.

Starting today (10/09/22), we'll be putting out weekly drawing prompts that you can complete to earn our special event currency: Candy Corn ( CC)! ! These prompts will be Halloween-themed and you'll have until the Saturday after at 11:59 PM site time to complete them.  You can find any prompts pertaining to this event under the "Event Prompts" listing. 

A new news post will go out each week on Sunday to let you know the details of that weeks prompts/events. There may be other little bonus events/prompts interspersed throughout the next three weeks of the event, so keep an eye out for the weekly news post and any announcements on Discord.

On Halloween, our event shop will open! More details about this shop and what you'll be able to purchase will become available later in the month, closer to the opening date. You can definitely look forward to seeing some spooky-themed items!

Hey there, Wet Animal Aficionados(TM)!

Upon certain points being brought to our attention regarding the exclusivity of the missing limb/missing eye traits, we on the Waterdog team have decided to update this to have them be more accessible for individuals participating in the species.

With that said, we are struggling with what to do for the designs existing with the traits already. Should compensation be given for the traits? And if so, should compensation be limited to only owners or should it be for the ones who originally bought the traits in the first place? Or, should it be some other kind of compensation for the downgrade of the traits?

Us mods have explored all the ins and outs of the question, and will need input from you all in order to move forward with implementing this change.

We have created a form to record your ideas on this matter here.

The more suggestions, the better! At a later time, we will reconvene and put all shared responses to a vote and then go from there.
